Hello!
Atlanta Indie Media is a start-up group for independent media makers. The group was seeded with a list of local members of the International Documentary Association (IDA), but is growing as more Atlanta media makers join, wanting to connect and move their projects forward.
Our first activity to hold monthly meetings, titled DocuQuarium, on the third Thursday of each month, at a location at near downtown Decatur.*
We've had two meetings in 2025. In January, we screened Clay Walker's Post No Bills, which showed at Sundance, with themes that remain timely today. We had a great discussion with a master who gave us insights as to how he created this important film. In February, we hosted Anjanette Levert, who showed her remarkable film, The Only Doctor. It's been in festivals and is a highly relevant look at the real-life effects of our revenue-driven medical systems. Anjanette shared her experiences in producing this up-close look at how people struggle to provide and get the care they need.
Meeting Format Proposal
Currently our meeting format is to have brief introductions (round robins), quick housekeeping notes, then presentation of an indie work (finished or in-progress, typically documentaries), followed by a discussion with the producer/media makers. We also may use a meeting to focus on specific topics related to production, funding, distribution, etc. and resource sharing.
In order for us to better network and find resources for our projects, with 50+ people actively interested, we thought it’d be good to create a quick form to (1) create a directory of people, skill sets and projects for use by members of the group, and (2) find out what you would like to get out of our get-togethers. Here's the form.
The results will not be shared except within our group, i.e. indies attending the monthly meetings. We’re figuring out the best way to do that and open to
any ideas!
Thanks
for helping us build a community of people who help each other!
*Our screening room is Room 104 in the Boyles Leadership Center building at Columbia Theological Seminary near downtown Decatur. You’ll need to punch in a code to access the building, the code is 345. CTS is located at 701 S Columbia Dr, Decatur, GA 30030.
